Sisterlock Adoration: Finding True Hair Freedom

This blog mostly follows my hair transition to Sisterlocks(TM), but it also gives me an outlet for my occasional social commentary. I always look forward to hearing from you about my hair or my diatribes. Thanks for visiting! ***BTW- Please do not copy my pictures without permission.***

Stereotypical Language in an Article about Riley Ann Sawyers AKA "Baby Grace"

The following is a terribly stereotypical passage from the article linked above…(I know it may seem trivial to focus on something like this, given that fact an innocent little girl was murdered; however, I was annoyed beyond reason by this.) How are you just going to generalize whole races of people? It's ridiculous...

A trained artist can look at a skull and immediately tell the race and gender of a corpse. And that's the beginning of giving a name to the unknown."If you turn the skull of a white male sideways, it's almost like a truck hit it. It's just straight up and down flat," said Marla Lawson, a renowned forensic artist who works for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. "The forehead protrudes very little and the chin sinks in. But for African-Americans, they slightly slope at the forehead and they protrude slightly at the mandible and they have these great cheekbones. Their skulls weigh more than white people's skulls, and their teeth will be whiter and brighter usually."
An Asian person's skull will have a wider facial area, Lawson said, but people of Hispanic descent are more challenging because the structures are nearly identical to Caucasians.

I totally agree, that article is how I ended up at your blog. I was searching for some modicum of truth behind her offensive statements. The best I could come up with was this:
RACE DETERMINATION FROM BONES
The skull is the only reliable bone. It is not possible to narrow down the identification to racial
stock:
• Caucasian (all whites)
• Negro (all blacks - African, American Negroes and West Indians)
• Mongoloid (Chinese, Japanese, American Indians)
Thus skulls of British, Germans, French or Swedes cannot be distinguished from one another.
Similarly Japanese skulls are similar to Chinese skulls.

Mongoloid race has characteristically "shovel-shaped" concave upper incisor teeth.

Cheekbones (Zygomatic arches): determine facial width. More prominent in Mongoloids. Width
between eyes greater in mongoloids.

Nasal openings: Wider and flatter in Negroids. Narrow in Caucasians.

Femur: Tends to be straighter in Negroids.

Brother, nothing about picking up a skull and telling which race it is from the weight.

Thanks for listening!
